FYI: I received my new property tax bill in the mail the other day.
If the proposed Florida property tax referandum, that is supposed to greatly decrease my property tax goes through...my property tax bill will decrease by $68.00 a year. Isn't that wonderful? $68.00 whole dollars!! WOO!! HOO!!
Even better, our sales tax will increase 2 cents on the dollar, which affects everyone. And we hope it will pay for all of the schools & public work projects. Then as a bonus thousands of government/state employees (maybe even my husband) lose their jobs! Which in turn will increase the unemployment & home foreclosure rate...Awesome!!
I love politics! (Dumb*ss motherf*ckers!!)

Hi Flleenie! Michele sent me along this fine morning. It seems to be the law that for every bit of good news there's a great wodge of bad. Politics are a pain in the butt and apart from voting I try to ignore them. at my time of life it's allowed:)

It seems to be the same freakin' story in every freakin' state and province. We're having a provincial election here in Ontario in October. Already, the ruling party, the Liberals, have begun using our tax dollars to buy television ads that convince us what a great job they've been doing.

Ouch! .2 cents doesn't seem like too much at first but damn. When you think about it on top of what you already pay it is a LOT!
(I work in Satellite tv & Know that Florida's tax on Satellite tv is huge -13%- & supposed to get worse)

figuring taxes makes me mad. grr.. i think our tax rate is 19% or something, which is very high for the area and yet the town still can't manage to do what it needs to do
Yep, they'll suck us all dry!
Here in the Great White North, they engage in idiocy called "downloading", where the federal government forces lower levels of government to take on services that the national gov used to do. They say it's in the name of efficiency, but the total tax bite continues to grow rampantly while the level of services drops through the floor.
Then they create megacities that drive skyrocketing property taxes and, you guessed it, thinning services. It's all so depressing.
Michele agrees with me that this is a travesty.
